The Weekly Stuff #461 - Reviewing HBO's The Last of Us

Episode Summary

Ten years after reviewing the original PS3 game, we dive deep with the new HBO adaptation of THE LAST OF US, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.

Episode Notes

Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us is one of the oldest topics on this podcast – we reviewed the original PS3 game, when it was brand new, 10 years and over 400 episodes ago, and have followed the series ever since – so it’s probably inevitable we’d cover HBO’s 9-episode TV adaptation starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. What’s not inevitable is what a wonderful show this turned out to be, respecting but also expanding upon the source material to tell the story in a way that stands tall all on its own. It’s inarguably the best live-action adaptation of a video game to date – not that the competition is particularly thick – and feels like a real inflection point in Hollywood finally taking the medium seriously. We also discuss the recent games we’ve been playing, including Like a Dragon Ishin and Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, and head on over to Sean’s Beta Corner for a look at the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo!
